Description
Timberdine Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a public house. It dates back to the 16th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 19th and late 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame with some brick and wattle-and-daub infill. It has an H-plan layout, with a hall range from the 16th century aligned east to west, a west cross-wing from the 19th century, and an east cross-wing with two framed bays from the 16th century.
The north front of the farmhouse includes a gabled and jettied two-storey wing on the left, which has two 2-light casements on the first floor and a 3-light casement on the ground floor. The hall range has a 3-light casement on the first floor and three 2- and 3-light casements on the ground floor. The right cross-wing is two storeys high with a gable-lit attic, featuring 2-light casements on both floors and simulated timber-framing on the first floor.
The framing of the left cross-wing is close-studded with a mid-rail on each floor. The roof trusses have a tie-beam and arch-braced collar. The hall range also has close-studded framing with a mid-rail, and above the rail on the first floor, the framing consists of square panels arranged two high. At the time of the survey in December 1984, the farmhouse was undergoing conversion to a public house.
