Description

Band House is a former warehouse, now used as offices, located on a corner site along South Quay in Worcester. Built around 1870 and converted in the 1980s, the building features brownish-red brick in Flemish bond, with purple brick arches and sills, as well as painted cement sills and lintels. It has a hipped slate roof and a rear brick stack with a pot.

The exterior consists of four storeys with a combination of one and five first-floor windows. The first bay creates a splayed angle, originally serving as a loading bay with a hoisting loft, now fitted with glazing and broad sills and lintels. A ramp leads to the central entrance, which has a renewed plank door. Small oblong openings with replacement 1/1 sash windows are present throughout, all set under purple brick cambered arches and featuring purple brick sills. The eaves are stepped.

The facade facing the River Severn also has four storeys and three first-floor windows, with similar window arrangements. The interior has not been inspected.

Historically, Band House was owned by Messrs W Bond and Sons. It is an important feature of the streetscape, overlooking the River Severn and forming part of a group of former warehouses that includes Brown's Restaurant and Gascoyne House. Together with Merchant's House on Quay Street, Worcester Bridge, and St Andrew's Church Tower, these buildings contribute to the visual framework for Worcester Cathedral as seen from the river.
