Description

Lansdowne Lodge and Merrimans Lodge are two buildings that may have originally been one house. They date from the early 19th century and have been extended and divided over time. The buildings are constructed of red brick with stone detailing and feature a hipped slated roof that is partially hidden behind a parapet. There are end stacks with oversailing details and pots.

The layout is double-depth, with entrances located on the left (north) side and off-centre to the left and right of the main (west) elevation. The buildings are three storeys high and have four first-floor windows. The stone detailing includes a frieze, a moulded cornice, and a parapet, along with window sills. Each side of the left-of-centre entrance has a canted bay window (4/4:6/6:4/4), and above each bay, there is a tripartite window (4/4:6/6:4/4) flanking a 6/6 sash window. The second floor features a 4-pane casement window flanked by ripartite windows, each with four panes. To the right, there is a single window range with a 6/6 sash above the entrance and a 4-pane casement on the second floor. The doors are six-panel, with the upper four being glazed, and they have pilaster doorcases topped with open pediments.

Merrimans Cottage, now part of Merrimans Lodge, is set back on the left return and has a single-depth plan. It is two storeys tall, with a blank west elevation and two 8/8 sash windows on each floor of the north elevation, with an entrance to the left in a single-storey range.

The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the buildings were shown as two houses on the First Edition Ordnance Survey Map of 1886.
