Description
Elmsleigh House is a Grade II listed, three-storey red brick detached house built in 1787 for Reverend J E Martin as a private residence. It served as a rectory from the late 19th century. The entrance front features a three-window range with two two-storey three-sided bays that have exposed box glazing bar sash windows. Above these bays are semi-circular lunettes with three lights. The building has a modillion eaves cornice and a central six-panel front door with a radiating bar fanlight, framed by a fine doorcase with an open pediment supported by console brackets. The windows above the door are adorned with eared architraves, stucco voussoirs, and keys, with a sunflower ornament at the first floor.
At the rear, there are two three-storey three-sided bays that appear to be later additions, along with a central door that has a flat hood. The windows above these bays also have eared architraves, and the building retains the modillion eaves cornice. There are single-storey additions in a matching style to the south, where a plaque reads 'Ralph Sheward. Builder. 1787'.
