Description
The statue located in the forecourt to the north of Hewell Grange dates from 1825 and is made of Coade stone on a sandstone plinth. It features a classical style representation of a naked man, with weapons moulded in low relief on the base. This base rests on a rectangular sandstone ashlar plinth, which is approached by two steps. The statue is signed "Croggan Lambeth 1825," indicating it was created by William Croggan, who took over the Coade factory in 1821. This statue is commonly known as the Fallen Gladiator.
