Description

Berry Hall Lodge is a lodge dating to 1884, designed by J.A. Chatwin for Joseph Gillot of Berry Hall. It is built in a Neo-Elizabethan style using red brick and timber framing, with ashlar dressings and plain tile roofs. The lodge has a single ridge and single lateral stacks, both decorated with cut brickwork. It features a double chamfered plinth and deeply coved wood and plaster eaves. The plan is rectangular, with a single storey and attics. A corner porch is set in antis, supported by bulbous turned wooden posts on ashlar bases. The porch has a shallow pointed arched doorway, alongside a small single light window. The south side has a single three-light ashlar cross mullion window and, to its left, a terracotta gargoyle. Above is a single gabled dormer with a three-light casement, coved eaves and an ornately carved gable, alongside a smaller, flat-roofed dormer. The west gable wall contains a three-light ashlar cross mullion window, above which is an ornately carved gable containing two three-light casements. The interior retains a staircase and fireplace.
