Description

The Humber Road Tunnel north portal is a stone structure dating from around 1838. It faces north and has a roughly elliptical shape. The portal features a central round arched opening flanked by retaining walls. The surround of the portal includes an inner band with zigzag decoration and an outer band with scalloped and plain mouldings. The retaining wall is made of tooled ashlar stone, laid in regular courses and topped with large stones.
