Description
The cells block located to the right of the police station at the corner of Coleridge Passage was built in the late 19th century. It is constructed of brick and terracotta, topped with a slate roof. The building has three storeys and features three bays, with the central bay being advanced and gabled. The main entrance is tripartite, accessed by steps and set within an anse de pannier arch. This entrance is flanked by barred sidelights and topped with a circular window and concave-sided pediments. Above this, there is a broad gable displaying the City of Birmingham's arms encircled by a wreath. The windows are almost square, fitted with leaded lights, and include mullions and transoms, with fleuron-like ornamentation above them. The ground floor windows are barred. The central gables are panelled. The right-hand side of the building, facing Coleridge Passage, is made of brick and features 13 tall inset panels, three of which have barred windows, while the sixth panel contains a tall mullioned and transomed window.
