Description
Coleridge Chambers is a late 19th-century building located on Corporation Street in the City Centre. It is constructed of red brick and yellow terracotta and stands four storeys tall, plus an attic. The facade features three bays divided by polygonal shafts that rise to flank a crowning gable, along with a polygonal corner turret topped with a copper ogee cap. The entrance to No 177 Corporation Street is located on the return to Coleridge Passage.
The ground floor is finished in terracotta and includes a central entrance with a door accessed by steps within a broad arch, flanked by two altered shop windows. Inside the entrance, there is a notable mosaic floor and wall tiling. The first and second floors each have pairs of windows; the first-floor windows are adorned with arches and decorative ribbonwork and masks in the spandrels, while the second-floor windows feature transoms and flat heads. The third floor has triplet windows with transoms and flat heads, and the gable also includes a triplet of windows with a decorative band above. The return on Coleridge Passage is similar in style but simpler, featuring a large gable.
