Description

The Village Pound, likely dating from the 17th century, is an enclosure featuring modern paving and a central monolithic stone. It is bordered by a pink sandstone wall approximately 8 feet high. The wall has three bays, with the center bay slightly projecting and containing an entrance that features an iron-barred gate beneath a shallow gable. There are barred openings in the wall on either side of the entrance. At the rear, the wall stands about 7 feet high and is integrated into the wall of an outhouse belonging to the Great Stone public house. The public house and Rose Cottage are located to the left and right of the pound, respectively.
