Description

Redlands, dating from circa 1900, was designed by C.E. Bateman in a simplified Tudor style. The building is constructed of red brick with a tiled roof. It is two storeys in height, with a one-storey and attic wing set at right angles, incorporating a dovecote. Architectural features include a corbelled cornice and a first-floor band. The windows are wide lattice casements, and there are massive chimneys. A projecting Dutch gable is located to the left centre of the garden front. A barrel-vaulted porch, supported by Doric colonnettes on low brick walls, is also present. Further details can be found in the Architectural Review of 1906, volume 19, pages 174-6, and in Lawrence Weaver’s Small Country Houses of Today, volume 1 (1992), pages 101-5.
