Description

Shakespeare Hall is a house that dates back to the 16th century, featuring a central range with cross-wings added in the 17th century, specifically dated 1682 to the central cross-gable. The building has undergone alterations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The exterior is primarily red brick on the left side and the ground floor center, with close-studded timber-framing and brick infill on the first floor center and a two-storey porch to the right of center. There is also small timber-framing with brick infill to the right. The roof is complex and covered with plain tiles, and there are various brick stacks, most of which were rebuilt in the late 20th century.

The house has two storeys and features a seven-window range. The porch, located to the right of center, has a ribbed and studded door. The windows are irregularly arranged casements, and there is a wood oriel window on the first floor of the porch. The garden front at the rear shows brick on the ground floor and square timber-framing with brick infill on the first floor, both to the left and right of center, with 19th-century close-studded timber-framing in the center. The fenestration on this side is also from the 19th century.

Inside, there is a straight-flight staircase leading from the ground to the first floor, which was brought in from a house in Solihull and is dated 1665, featuring a carved balustrade. Some ground floor rooms have brought-in panelling, and there are Tudor-arched stone fireplaces in some of these rooms.
