Description
The stable block, located approximately 50 metres north-north-east of Wroxall Abbey Hotel and attached cottages at the rear, was built around 1866 by Walter Scott of Liverpool for James Dugdale. It features a grey brick plinth, red brick with some stone dressings, and a slate roof with various brick stacks. The building is designed in a High Victorian Gothic style with a U-shaped courtyard plan.
The structure is single storey with an attic and consists of a five-bay main range flanked by single-bay cross-wings on either side, which are lower in height. The four-bay wings enclose the courtyard. A segmental pointed carriage archway is located at the centre. The windows are irregularly arranged, primarily consisting of sashes with segmental pointed brick heads. There are gabled half-dormers in the attic and a central cross-gable that features a datestone from 1866. A clock tower is positioned at the centre, supported by stone columns at the corners of the clock stage, with a frieze of blind lancets. The pyramidal slate roof is topped with louvred gablets and a wrought-iron finial.
The courtyard is enclosed by brick walls and iron gates. At the rear, there are two 19th-century cottages attached to the stable block. The interior has not been inspected.
