Description

Hillmorton Lodge is a house that has been divided into two dwellings, located on Hillmorton Road in Rugby. It was built around 1835 and later extended in the late 19th or early 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with stone dressings and features slate hipped and pedimented roofs, complete with lead rolls on the hips and deep eaves. The stacks have cornices, including one large stuccoed stack with panelled sides and square white clay pots.

This Neo-Classical villa has a cross-wing with a side entrance on the left. The right section, which is now the center, was remodeled and extended to the right (No 17A) during the late 19th or early 20th century. The house is two storeys high with an attic, displaying a 1:2:3 window arrangement on the south front. The left cross-wing has a raised attic storey topped with a modillioned pediment, bands, and a large rendered bay window on the ground floor that features pilasters, an entablature, and a tripartite sash with glazing bars. Above, there is a window with a moulded architrave and cornice on consoles. The entrance on the left side includes a large stuccoed porch with square columns and a heavy entablature. The central two bays of the south front have been remodeled, featuring two sashes similar to those in a three-window addition on the right with a canted front. A large square lantern is set back over the center, topped with a pyramidal roof and bracketed eaves. The rear elevation, which is slightly set back on the left, has various sashes with glazing bars.

Inside, only No 17A was accessible, showcasing a stick baluster servants' stair and a late 19th or early 20th-century chimneypiece in the front room.
