Description
Hayes Hall is a house dating from the late 18th century, constructed of red brick in English bond with stone dressings. It features a concrete interlocking tile roof, which has a parapet with a moulded cornice and a main cornice made of dressed stone. The main range has a plan that includes a parallel and adjoining rear service range, and the building stands two storeys high.
The front elevation facing the garden is symmetrical and consists of five windows, with a recessed central bay. The windows on the upper floor are 12-pane hung sashes set under flat arches made of brighter red brick. The ground floor windows are mid-20th century, featuring 4-pane hung sashes. A central Doric portico made of stone, which is elliptical in shape, supports an entablature. The doorway has a moulded surround with decorative boss enrichments at the corners, and the double doors have glazed upper panels along with two raised, fielded, and reeded lower panels.
At the rear of the house, overlooking the yard, is the service range, built with similar materials. The first-floor windows here are mainly from the late 20th century. At the north end, there is a wider doorway with a boarded door that leads to a cross-passage, which provides access to an external staircase leading down to the cellars.
