Description
Swynnerton Hall, built around 1725, was designed by architect Francis Smith of Warwick for Thomas Fitzherbert. The main block is constructed of ashlar and has three storeys with nine sash windows, five of which are on the sides. The windows are set in moulded architraves, with keyblocks on the first storey and pedimented windows on the ground storey. The building features rusticated angles, and the three central bays slightly project, adorned with giant Tuscan pilasters. The doorway is framed by a rusticated surround with Ionic columns and a bolection frieze, topped by a plain parapet with large urn finials. The east elevation and interior were altered around 1810 by James Trubshaw, and there is a later three-storey brick wing on the north side. Inside, the former two-storeyed great hall has been horizontally divided, and there is a notable staircase with an elegant iron balustrade that extends to the top of the building.
