Description
The bridge at Beech Dale Road, built in the mid to late 18th century, is a road bridge that has undergone partial rebuilding in the 20th century. It is constructed from massive coursed squared sandstone, featuring red brick arch linings. The bridge has a single arch that carries the A519 road over a minor road in Beech Dale, which runs at an acute angle to the main road. The structure includes a stilted semi-circular arch defined by plain voussoirs, set within splayed abutments that end in plain pilasters. The arch head is marked by a plain flat band course that extends around the pilasters and along the adjoining flanking walls. Above this band course, there are plain parapet walls with substantial flat copings. The east parapet wall extends south-westwards beyond the abutment to define the curve of the road, while the west parapet has been largely rebuilt in 20th-century masonry. The arch lining consists of narrow 18th-century red brick, with the courses running parallel to the road being bridged. Flanking retaining walls are set back on either side of the archways.
