Description
Longnor Hall is a small country house dated 1726, as noted on the rainwater head. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features a flat roof that is hidden behind a rebuilt parapet. The building exhibits a Provincial Baroque style with a 'U' shaped plan at the rear. The south elevation has three storeys and is arranged in a 2-3-2 bay configuration, featuring glazing bar sashes that are shorter on the second floor. These windows are set in stone keyed heads and have brick aprons. The corners of the building are accentuated with stone quoins, and there is a central three-bay break topped with a stone moulded pediment below the parapet coping, which is capped by stone urns at the angles.
The central doorway is stone pedimented with a Gibbsian surround and has a double, four-panelled front door. The widely spaced two-bay sides have similar windows and a central rainwater pipe, with the lead head inscribed "1726 R.E.A." There is a lower kitchen range to the northwest, which includes a late 19th-century Serlian window on the first floor at the rear.
Inside, the hall has undergone significant remodelling in the late 19th century, featuring a central entrance hall and stairway. The room to the left of the front door retains early 18th-century panelling, which is fielded and includes a dado rail and moulded cornice, along with a 19th-century fireplace.
To the northeast, a curved wall encloses the stable yard from the garden. This wall is made of red brick with stone dressings and stands 2 meters high, extending to the gate piers, which have a brick plinth and a moulded stone string and capping. The gates are not included in the listing.
