Description
The building is a former stable, cartsheds, and an attached gate pier located approximately 50 yards north-west of Hamstall Hall. The stables and cartsheds are primarily from the early 19th century but include a significant amount of earlier materials. The structure is made of red brick with a timber-framed core and features a plain tile roof. It is oriented north-east to south-west, with its entrance facing south-east.
The building is one storey high with a loft. To the right, there are two segmental-headed doors, while to the left, there are two openings for carts. Gabled dormers are present on the right and in the center, and there is a gabled loft door on the left. Attached to the right is a 17th-century square section gate pier with a pyramidal cap, which marks one side of a blocked entrance to the outer courtyard of Hamstall Hall.
Inside, the cross walls are constructed of square panel timber framing with tension braces. The roof trusses feature curved principals. A re-used ceiling beam from the 15th or early 16th century, which has ogee and quarter circle moulding, is likely from a now-demolished part of Hamstall Hall.
