Description
Hackney stable and smithy, built in the early 19th century, is located approximately 15 metres north of Horsley Brook Farmhouse. The structure is made of red brick resting on a stone plinth, with tiled roofs featuring an eaves band.
The building consists of two parts: the hackney stable to the south is a single-storey structure with a hay loft above. The south gable includes a hay loft door at the apex and a stable door to the left, both with segmental heads. The west side has four small openings at varying heights. Attached to the north is the smithy, which is of similar length but has eaves set about 1300mm lower. The stack is now missing, and there is a segmental-headed entry in the centre of the west side, although the forge has been removed. This building is part of a complete farm group that was constructed for the Swinfen estate.
