Description

The Church of St James is a parish church located in Barton-under-Needwood. It dates back to 1517 and was built by Dr John Taylor, a local ecclesiastic and chaplain to Henry VIII. The church is constructed of stone and features embattled parapets. It includes a nave and aisles, with the aisles having been widened in the 19th century. The nave and chancel still have their original low pitched roofs. Inside, there are several monuments, including a notable alabaster mural monument from 1691 dedicated to Joseph Sanders and a marble tablet commemorating Edmund Antrobus and his wife from 1732 and 1728, respectively.
