Description
The Shrine is a replica of the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, built between 1927 and 1934. It is located in front of the west end of a church and is designed as a concrete and stone-clad ceremonial grotto, with the masonry dressed to resemble natural stone. The grotto features a sheltered raised paved platform, with a niche in one corner that contains a statue of Our Lady. There are later additions of an altar stone and a pulpit. On either side of the grotto, there are six art deco-style stone pylons with vacant niches, enhancing the overall design. The structure is set on a man-made earthen mound and faces west towards an enclosed ceremonial square.
