Description
The barn and stable ranges at Bemersley Farm date from the late 18th century and early 19th century. They are constructed from coursed sandstone rubble and red brick, featuring ashlar dressings and a plain tiled roof. The building is arranged in a U-plan.
The west range consists of five bays, with three central brick bays flanked by single outer stone bays that have quoins. Each bay contains a single window beneath an ashlar lintel. The inner facade of this range includes a single stone bay to the south, which has a stable door on the ground floor and a loft opening with a plank door above. This is historically significant as it is where Hugh Bourne printed books for the Primitive Methodist book room. The rest of the facade features four stable doors, two of which are now blocked, and four windows, all with stone lintels, as well as two loft openings with plank doors above. The north range has similar window arrangements. The single-storey east range also contains stables.
