Description

The bridge at Boreton Bridge dates to 1826, with later 19th-century and circa 1930 alterations. It is a painted cast iron bridge spanning the Cound Brook. The bridge features red brick abutments with parapets, corrugated decking, and a concrete and steel balustrade. The single span is constructed of four cast segmental ribs with pierced spandrels, and has lattice girders at right-angles joining the abutments at each end. A date is cast into a central 'keystone' on either side of the bridge. While a bridge has existed on this site since 1659, the present structure was re-erected by Thomas, Lord Berwick, during the time that Thomas Telford served as County Surveyor (1797-1834).
