Description
Lower House Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse located in Alberbury with Cardeston. It is constructed from Alberbury breccia, squared and coursed rubble, with red brick dressings and features a hipped slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall. It has a plinth and deep eaves, with a pair of brick ridge stacks and an external stone and brick end stack at the rear.
The facade consists of three bays separated by pilaster strips, with glazing bar sash windows that have slightly segmental gauged brick heads. The central entrance features a six-panelled door, where the lower two panels are flush and the top panels are glazed, accompanied by a radial fanlight. The door is framed by panelled reveals, with the top panels raised and fielded, and a surround that includes reeded pilaster strips and tall shaped brackets supporting a moulded cornice.
To the right, there is a two-bay return front that includes wooden cross-casements and a first-floor glazing bar sash window. A former two-storey service wing is set back to the left and contains a mix of 19th-century and 20th-century casements. The interior has not been inspected.
