Description

This is a 17th-century house, now derelict, located east of Yew Tree Farm. The house has a timber-frame construction, with some brick nogging, sections clad in weatherboards, and parts rebuilt in brick. It has a steeply pitched, gable-ended roof covered in corrugated sheet steel, and a brick gable-end stack.

The building’s original layout comprised three bays. The right-hand, or east, bay served as a hall or kitchen and features a gable-end stack. The middle bay was partitioned axially and remains unheated, while the left-hand, or west, bay functioned as a byre, open to the roof. It may have originally contained a loft.

The south front features doorways centrally located to the left and right. A later open lean-to has been added to the rear, north-facing side.

The right-hand room includes a chamfered axial beam with hollow-step stops, exposed joists, and a large fireplace with a chamfered timber bressumer, timber jambs, and a later brick oven. A partition wall displays a stencilled mural depicting foliage and flowers. The centrally partitioned bay features a chamfered axial beam and exposed joists. Additional features include jowled storey posts supporting collar-and-tie-beam closed trusses, trenched purlins, a diagonally-set trenched ridge piece, and missing common rafters.
