Description

Brynfedwyn is a farmhouse, now a house, likely dating from the early to mid-17th century, with later additions and alterations. The exterior is constructed of whitewashed, uncoursed limestone rubble, with the right gable end rebuilt in the 20th century using brick and timber framing, incorporating rendered infill on the rear. It has a graded slate roof. The building appears to have originally consisted of three or four framed bays, featuring an external lateral stack centrally located on the front. It is one storey high with a gable-lit attic. There are C19 segmental-headed casement windows to the left and right, and a fixed-light window directly below the eaves to the left of the stack. The stack has a rubblestone base, a brick shaft, and a rebuilt top in C19 yellow brick. A lateral stack is integrated into the rear on the right side, and a truncated stack is present at the left gable end. A rubblestone catslide outshut extends from the rear on the left. Framing details are visible on the rear of the right side, featuring square panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate, with short straight tension braces. A single exposed purlin, wall-plate and ridge piece ends are visible on the right gable end. The interior, inspected in October 1986, contained chamfered spine beams with run-out stops in the left and right ground-floor rooms, with joists to the latter. The middle room has a deep-chamfered cross beam and heavy joists. An inglenook fireplace is present, featuring a chamfered wooden lintel, and there is a tile floor.
