Description
The forecourt walls and gate piers adjoining Cloverley Hall to the north-west were built around 1870 by William Eden Nesfield. They are constructed from red brick with grey sandstone ashlar dressings and are arranged in a rough L-plan. The low walls feature a double-chamfered plinth and chamfered coping. Although the original wrought-iron railings have been removed, the standards and stanchions with ornamental spandrels remain. The brick piers have chamfered plinths and moulded-brick ribs that create a grid pattern on the sides, topped with pyramidal stone caps and trumpet finials. There is a pair of larger gate piers to the north-west, which are decorated with carved brick discs, stylized flowers, and armorial devices, along with pyramidal caps that feature billet ornament and pineapple finials. A wrought-iron gateway leads to the garden at the south-west corner. Additionally, a section of the wall adjoining the house to the south was built in 1927, coinciding with the partial demolition of Cloverley Hall at that time.
