Description
This is a group of four coffin slabs located immediately to the north of the nave of the Church of Saint Peter in Stoke Upon Tern. One slab may date from the 12th century, while the others are likely from the 13th or 14th century. They are made of red sandstone. The earliest slab, found in the northeast position, features raised interlaced foliage ornament, while the later slabs each have an incised cross and border. This group is one of three sets of coffin slabs situated to the north of the Church of Saint Peter. They were discovered built into the foundations of the south wall of the old church, which has since been replaced by the current church that was constructed between 1874 and 1875.
