Description

Crossing Cottage is a level-crossing keeper’s cottage dating to approximately 1848, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed from roughly coursed limestone rubble with angle quoins, and has a slate roof with fretted bargeboards and pointed finials. The cottage is arranged in a cruciform plan and is built in a Tudor Gothic style. It is two storeys high. The left gable has one cast-iron latticed casement window on each floor. A canted bay to the ground floor of the centre gable has a two-light window above. The entrance is situated in the angle between the left and centre gables, featuring a four-centred arch with hollow spandrels and a ledged and braced door. A central red brick ridge stack has been rebuilt in late 19th-century brick. The building is included on the list for its group value. The road, shown as Whittington Road on Ordnance Survey maps, is known as Oswestry Road.
