Description

The monument to King George IV, located approximately 30 metres south of Astley House, was built around 1830. It is made of grey sandstone ashlar and designed in a Gothic revival style. The monument has a square plan and features a pedestal with quatrefoils on each face, along with a frieze and cornice. The second stage also has quatrefoils on each face, claw feet, and crocketed Gothic arches above. The top stage is pierced and is surmounted by a bust, which is presumably of the King. This information was provided by the occupant of Astley House during a survey in January 1987.
