Description

Tyrley Castle Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the mid-to-late 18th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a plinth, a plat band, a dentil brick eaves cornice, and returned dentil brick verges. The wall plate is exposed on the left side. There are brick ridge stacks that are off-centre to the left and right, as well as an integral brick end stack on the right.

The front of the house has four windows, which are segmental-headed glazing bar sashes with exposed boxes. There are two large 20th-century lead-sheathed hipped eaves dormers with 2-light windows. A 20th-century oculus is located on the first floor between the first and second windows from the right. The main entrance features a mid-19th century four-panelled door, with the lower two panels being beaded flush and the upper two being faceted raised and fielded. This door is positioned between the first and second windows from the right and is framed by a moulded architrave and a 20th-century gabled hood. There is a blocked doorway between the first and second windows from the left.

To the left, there is a one-storey lean-to addition made of red sandstone. The right-hand gable end has a first-floor glazing bar sash and two ground-floor glazing bar sashes. At the rear, there are two gabled wings. The interior has not been inspected. The house has an unusual elevation that suggests it may have originally been two separate dwellings.
