Description

South Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, which was extended and remodeled in the mid to late 19th century. It features painted brick on a red sandstone ashlar and red brick plinth, topped with a two-span plain tile roof. The original 17th-century block has a 19th-century addition to the northwest, creating two parallel ranges aligned northeast to southwest, evident from the straight joint in the southeast front to the left of the door. The building has been remodeled in a Tudor Gothic style and stands two storeys high with an attic.

The 17th-century range has a chamfered plinth and two gables at the front, which are adorned with scalloped barge boards and finials. There is a gabled dormer to the south of the north range that features a two-light leaded casement. The north range has a ridge stack with three diagonally-placed brick shafts, while the rear of the south range has an external 17th-century brick end stack with two star-shaped shafts.

The front of the farmhouse has three windows, with the first floor featuring 19th-century wooden cross windows and the ground floor showcasing three-light wooden casements with transoms, all of which have returned wooden hoodmoulds. The central entrance is a half-glazed door with a chamfered surround, topped by a 19th-century gabled wooden arch supported by chamfered posts, arch-braces, a boarded tympanum, scalloped barge boards, and a panelled finial. The left-hand return front includes two first-floor blocked 17th-century flat-faced mullioned stone windows. There is also a small 20th-century addition at the rear of the house.
