Description

This is a 17th-century timber-frame building with a brick front dating to the early 19th century, located at numbers 82 to 86, The Homend. Numbers 82 and 84 have been painted. The roof is slate-covered with gable ends. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top, with decorative brackets (modillions) on number 86. The building is two storeys high. The first floor has five widely spaced sash windows with glazing bars, each with a flat brick arch and a decorative keyblock above. The ground floor features different shop fronts: number 82 has a somewhat altered early to mid-19th century shop front with a canted window and fascia; number 84 has a shop front with tongue-and-groove boarding; and number 86 has a larger, projecting Victorian shop front with six round-headed lights, carved spandrels, and a central entrance. Numbers 78 to 86 together form a notable group.
