Description

Netherley Hall is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 17th century to the early 18th century. It underwent alterations and extensions around 1800 and again around 1850. The structure features timber-frame construction with regular panels, which are brick-cased at the front, and has a tiled roof at the rear. It has one storey and an attic, with three bays and symmetrical window arrangements. On the left bay, there is a mid-19th century casement window with three lights under a segmental head, while a similar window on the right bay lacks the segmental head. Each of the three bays has a gabled dormer with late 19th century casements. The central entrance is a mid-20th century beaded door, and there is a second entrance on the left gable end wall, which features a 19th century ledged door under a weathered hood. Inside, the left bay includes a fireplace with early 19th century swivel brackets for heating liquids. The framing consists of three panels from the cill to the wall-plate, and the gable tie-beam has planked weathering. The building was extended to the right to create a cross-wing around 1800, which was further expanded with a substantial villa-style house around 1850. Both extensions have low hipped slate roofs and rendered finishes.
