Description

The Church of St Mary is a parish church dating from around 1300, which has undergone alterations and restorations over the years. The north aisle was added in 1862, and in 1878, the chancel was extended, and a porch and bellcote were added, along with new windows and other works. The church consists of a nave with a bell-turret at the west end, a south porch, a north aisle, a chancel, and a north vestry. It is built from coursed, squared rubble with freestone dressings and has a plain tiled roof.

The nave features two windows, one of which has Y-tracery, and both are cusped. There are buttresses with offsets at the corners, and the timber bell-turret has a pyramidal slate roof with trefoil-headed openings and quatrefoils above. A sundial is set at the south-east corner. The projecting gabled porch has an ashlar plinth and arcaded timber upper parts. The north aisle has a catslide roof and three windows, including one single-light window and two with two lights, all featuring cinquefoil heads.

The chancel includes 19th-century single and two-light windows, all with cinquefoil heads. Inside, there is a three-bay arcade leading to the north aisle, supported by octagonal piers and double chamfered arches, along with a pointed chancel arch. A notable monument in the chancel commemorates Edward Webb, who died in 1855, created by Lew of Cheltenham, featuring marble draped flags and arms, along with a sword and hat.
