Description
St Mary's Hall is an 18th-century building located on Church Row. It is constructed of red brick and features two storeys and a cellar, with a total of six windows. The first floor has 16-pane sash windows, while the ground floor has 24-pane sash windows, all with gauged brick lintels. A sandstone band runs along the first floor level, and the entrance door consists of six flush panels. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and the brick dentil eaves are notable for local history. Originally founded during the reign of Edward VI as a Latin Grammar School, it fell into ruin and was refounded in 1704 through the efforts of John Kyrle. St Mary's Hall, along with the adjacent No. 16 Church Street, forms a cohesive group of buildings.
