Description
The Hop Pole Hotel, built around 1740, is located on Main Street in Ollerton. It features an adjoining stable block from the late 19th century and an early 18th-century outbuilding. The hotel is constructed of brick with a plain tile roof and has three storeys, arranged in 18 bays with a configuration of 5/4/5/3/1.
Architectural details include a first-floor band, dentillated timber eaves, and cogged and rebated brick eaves. The stable block has a central carriage entry with a segmental head, flanked by three recessed bays, each containing a casement window with segmental heads. Above these are five plain sashes with rubbed brick heads. The left wing features three plain sashes and a door with an overlight, while the right wing has four glazing bar sashes above.
The central block is highlighted by a projecting pedimented central bay with a Classical timber doorcase that includes pilasters and an open pediment. The round-headed doorway has a keystone and fanlight, with a panelled door flanked by two plain sashes. Above, there are four glazing bar sashes and, higher still, four smaller sashes. The dentillated pediment features a half round window with a brick keystone and imposts. The right wing has three plain sashes and three glazing bar sashes above.
The outbuilding to the right has a coped gable and a central glazing bar sash with a segmental head, alongside a 20th-century door with an overlight and two blocked openings above. The south side has six bays, with a 20th-century door and flanking light to the left, and four glazing bar sashes to the right. Above, there are plain sashes to the left and a close boarded door to the right.
