Description
The Grange is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with an addition and refronting completed in 1747, along with a 20th-century addition. It is constructed from coursed greenstone rubble featuring deeper squared courses, with ashlar quoins and brick dressings. The roof is slate with stone coped gables, and there are three brick stacks: one on the gable, one on the ridge, and one on the wall. The building has an L-plan layout and is two storeys high with a garret, presenting a three-bay front. The central entrance features 20th-century glazed double doors, which are sheltered by a large 20th-century porch, and is flanked by single glazing bar sash windows. On the first floor, there are three similar windows, all with segmental brick heads. Above the door, there is a stone inscribed 'G H 1747' accompanied by three 19th-century medieval style heads. A partially defaced datestone from 1747 is reused as a quoin at the right-hand corner. The right-hand side wall displays a projecting 14th-century corbel head with short hair and a band, though its features are defaced. Inside, there is one deeply moulded beam and a late 17th-century turned baluster staircase with a moulded handrail and a knopped newel.
