Description

The Old Hall is a house dating from 1647, with 18th century and early 19th century alterations. It is constructed of coursed blue lias rubble, rough limestone ashlar, red brick, and has a 20th century slate roof. The building features a 17th century rectangular block that is highlighted by a large, undivided central stone ridge stack with pronounced coping, along with two later rendered gable stacks and stone coped gables.

The house has two storeys with an attic and a three-bay front that includes a limestone dressed rubble plinth and an ashlar band at the first floor level. There is a doorway at the north end with a partially glazed 20th century door. To the south of the doorway are two windows, with a blocked window situated between them. Above the door and the first window to the south are two additional windows, all of which feature glazing bar sashes. The upper section of the house includes two dormers with casement windows.

The north return of the building contains three blocked 17th century mullion windows, with the ground and first floor windows having four lights and the garret window featuring three lights. Above this section is a worn datestone inscribed with the year 1647. To the west of the main house are 18th century brick structures that served as a kitchen, brew and bake house, along with 19th century stables.
