Description
Brauncewell Lodge is a late 17th-century farmhouse that was altered in the early 19th century. The construction is of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, and it has plain tile roofs with four red brick gable stacks and ashlar-coped gables. A red brick plinth is present, and a corbel table runs along the eaves, featuring ashlar corbels decorated with crosses and hammers. The house is two storeys high and of a double range plan, with three bays. The central doorway has a four-centred arched, chamfered surround with a margin light and double-glazed doors. Flanking the doorway are single, slightly projecting, three-light mullion bay windows, each with a moulded parapet and three four-centred arched sashes. Above these are three two-light mullion windows with deep chamfered surrounds, each fitted with two, four-centred arched sashes and Tudor hoods. To the right is a lower, two-storey kitchen wing, exhibiting 20th-century Gothic style windows. The interior features 17th-century chamfered beams, some contemporary doors, and a resited 17th-century cupboard in the present kitchen. The kitchen wing contains a bread oven.
