Description
No. 16 Chapel Lane is a cottage that dates from the 17th century, with mid-19th century and 20th century alterations. It features a timber frame construction, with sections of colourwashed mud and stud, as well as some colourwashed red brick. The roof is thatched but covered in corrugated iron, and there is a single central ridge stack. The cottage is two storeys high and has a three-bay front, with a mud and stud lean-to on the left and a 20th century brick lean-to on the right.
At the front, there is a brick plinth and a central doorway that includes an overlight, a panelled door, and a lattice work porch. The doorway is flanked by two tiers of single bay windows with casements on each side. There is an additional doorway to the left with a plank door and another to the right with a 20th century glazed door. On the north side, there is a casement window to the right and a sliding sash window to the left. Inside the lean-to on the left, the mud and stud is exposed, showcasing a beamed ceiling and posts. The timber frame of the main body of the house is embedded in the fabric and is only visible in certain areas.
