Description
Sunnyside is a house, now vacant, dating from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century and mid to late 20th century. It features a single bay addition to the east from the mid 20th century. The structure is built of mud and stud, with 19th-century brick cladding. The roof is gabled and hipped, originally thatched but now covered with corrugated iron, and the central ridge stack has been truncated. The house is single storey with a baffle entry plan and has two bays. The south front includes a board door flanked by a single window on the left and two windows on the right. The left gable, which is partly weatherboarded, features a three-light window, while the rear has two wooden lean-to additions.
Inside, there are substantial remains of the framing and roof structure. The left room has framing with diagonal braces and mud panels. To the east, there is a mid 20th-century fireplace set under the original bressummer, flanked on the left by a pair of early 19th-century cupboard doors. The right room contains a massive span beam with a knee bracket, and at the east end, there is a similar beam that has been cut through to create a doorway. The west wall shows traces of a blocked fireplace opening and a segment-arched bread oven. Above both rooms, there is a single puffin roof with collars, hipped at the east end.
