Description

The Manor House is a house that possibly dates back to the 15th and 17th centuries, with an addition made in 1879 and some minor alterations in the 20th century. Originally built with a timber frame, it was later encased in 17th-century colourwashed brickwork arranged in English bond. The roof is made of pantiles and features raised brick coped gables, two external gable stacks, and a single clustered ridge stack located near the angle between the two ranges of the L-plan.

The house is a single storey with attics and has a three-bay front that was extended forward in 1879 using brick and topped with a lead roof and a moulded top. The entrance features a four-panelled door with flanking pointed lights, which are recessed, supported by a beam with pierced bracing panels on moulded corbels. To the right of the entrance are three pointed lights with plain sashes, while to the left, there is a blind pointed opening flanked by pairs of similar windows.

In the roof, there are three two-light dormers with lead flat roofs and cheeks. At the rear, there is a 19th-century lean-to with 20th-century alterations. In the angle of the L-plan, there is a large stack with an inglenook fireplace, and the curved bressumer is chamfered with small roll stops. Inside, in the central first-floor room, a large bay post is visible, jointed into the tie, along with an arch brace to the tie, which is three feet above floor level, possibly indicating the location of a former ground floor hall. The doorway that breaks through the tie has a 17th-century character, featuring large timber uprights that are chamfered with simple stops. The clasped purlin roof is partly renewed.

Additionally, the house has a large collection of 13th-century moulded stones in the garden and is situated on the site of an earlier building.
