Description

The stable block to the former Grainsby Hall was built around 1820. It is constructed of white brick with white brick and ashlar dressings and features shallow hipped slate roofs. The building has a raised white brick plinth, quoins, and bands, and is largely single storey with a quadrangular plan.

The south-west front is bordered by a low coped brick wall with a central square gatepier topped with a pyramidal cap. The north-west and south-east wings are single storey and have a plain bracketed eaves cornice, each containing six round-headed openings. The south-east block, on the right, features two tall brick stacks and two central doorways flanked by single round-headed sash windows, which are now boarded, and beyond these are single narrow lancet windows, also boarded, set in round-headed panels. The north-west block to the left has alternating stable doors and round-headed windows, which are now boarded. Each end wall of the south-east block has a single round-headed window. The side walls connect these side blocks to the main range.

The main range on the north-east side has a projecting central coach house with flanking single storey wings, each containing four round-headed openings, including one doorway and three windows, which are now boarded. The central coach house features a segmental arched carriage arch with double plank doors and three circular hayloft windows above, which are also boarded. The building is topped with a pedimented gable that has dentilated eaves. This stable block was originally built to serve Grainsby Hall, which was demolished in 1972.
