Description
Bilsby House is a mid-18th century house that underwent alterations and additions in 1904. It is constructed of red brick with stucco dressings and features a hipped Westmoreland slate roof, which has paired bracketed eaves and two wall stacks. The house has a two-storey, five-bay front with a rendered plinth. The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door topped by a delicate traceried fanlight, with panelled reveals and a Doric pilastered doorcase. Above the door is a triglyph frieze and a dentillated hood, flanked by pairs of tall early 20th-century cross mullioned casement windows with glazing bars. The first floor also has five similar windows. On either side of the main structure are added single-storey wings, each containing a triple glazing bar casement. All windows are equipped with louvred shutters and have rusticated splayed stucco lintels with key blocks. The staircase and fittings date from 1904. The house is situated within a substantial moated enclosure.
