Description
The Lodge is a former gate lodge and walls, dating from the early 19th century and altered in the 20th century. It is designed in the Cottage ornee style. The building is constructed of painted brick and features a conical plain tiled roof with a central circular dentillated stack. It has a kidney-shaped plan with a small lean-to at the rear, which has been altered in the 20th century.
The lodge is a single storey plus attics and has a five-bay front, with a step out between the third and fourth bays and a dogtoothed eaves course. There are three pointed openings with two-light casements, a blocked pointed door to the left, and a round-headed window to the right. In the roof, there are two small gabled dormers with pointed two-light windows. The rear extension features a 20th-century door and window.
To the left of the lodge, there is a coursed limestone rubble wall with edge-set stone coping, which ramps over above a planked garden doorway and terminates in a square stone pier. The gate lodge was built for the Beridges at Algarkirk Park.
