Description
This is a row of three cottages, now functioning as shops, located on the south side of London Road in Oadby. They likely date back to the 16th century. The cottages are timber framed with brick panel infill and have a slate roof that replaced the original thatch. Each cottage is a single one-and-a-half storey unit. Number 48 remains largely intact, featuring a doorway on the left and a casement window with panelled wood shutters beyond. Inside, the jowled corner posts, rails, and arched braces of the timber frame are visible. The roof structure consists of principal rafters and collars with windbraces. The front elevations of Numbers 44 and 46 have been significantly altered, but some framing and earlier window openings can still be seen at the rear. Number 44 has an open roof space inside. It is noted that Number 48 is now a shop, but its exterior has not been changed, with interior alterations limited to the connection with the adjacent shop.
