Description
Brooke House School, built around 1708, is thought to have been first constructed by John Massey. In 1808, a top storey was added to the western part and an east wing was also added. The building features a red brick facade with rusticated stone quoins and moulded stone sill bands, topped with a cornice and a small parapet. It stands three storeys tall. The street facade has five windows, all of which are barred sashes with moulded stone architraves, while the top storey has only three windows. The main front, which faces the garden and is at right angles to the road, also has five windows, including a long round-headed landing window that spans all storeys. A notable feature is the projecting stone porch in Greek Ionic style, supported by paired columns. The interior includes a fine staircase, and some features from 1708 are still present.
