Description
Barn. Dating from the 17th century, with 19th-century alterations and additions, it is located to the south-east of Westhorpe Farmhouse. The barn is constructed of coursed rubble coal measures sandstone, with quoins, and has stone slates, asbestos tiles, and pantiles covering the roof. It is a single-storey building with overlofts, comprising eight bays. A full-height opening is present on the south-west elevation, a single opening at the north-west end, and numerous blocked triangular vents. The interior has been altered, but evidence suggests it was originally cruck framed. One cruck truss survives within the third bay at the north-west end, supporting a single purlin roof and retaining curved windbraces. The remaining seven bays feature substantial tie beam trusses supporting double purlins.
